Mwarves are a subterranean species of social buggits that inhabit the legendary realm of Mildendo Earth. They group themselves in large social structures called colonies. They are mighty, resilient and a bit stubborn at times. An ancient rivalry between the elegant Abae and the stout Mwarves still exists today, though the reason for this rivalry has been diluted through a long history of oral tradition. Today, many of these two species simply look for reasons to hate the other.
The name mwarf is thought to derive from an amalgamation of several different lineages. Their rivals, the Abae, call the subterranean dwellers Mravahim, and a single being a mrav. In Old Gânduk, spoken anciently by the mighty Gândacks from the North, the word for a Mwarf is maur; their subterranean tunnels and dwellings were called maurhausen. It is believed by modern linguists and anthropolgists that Mwarf was a combining of these two words: mrav and maur; it may initially had been maurav, then softened to today’s mwarv or mwarf.
